Project Title: Development of 3D Echocardiographic Particle Image Velocimetry for Assessment of Right Ventricular Function
Project Abstract:
Recent studies have emphasized on the significance of the right ventricle in maintaining hemodynamic stability and cardiac performance in its entirety. The main tasks to be carried out are understanding and quantifying the three-dimensional flow pattern in the right ventricle through direct numerical simulation, and by advancement of the recently developed method of echocardiographic particle image velocimetry into a three-dimensional integrated approach. In this context, we will quantitatively characterize the vortex formation leading the blood jet passing through tricuspid valve, a task that has never done before, and will evaluate vortex developments and metamorphoses in the peculiar geometry of the RV cavity.
