Project Title: Ultrastructural Assessment of Bone Development Using Synchrotron Radiation Based Nano-CT

Project Abstract:

The overall aim of this study is to quantitatively assess ultrastructural bone development over time, non-invasively and in a truly three-dimensional fashion. Namely, formation and changes of the cannular network, as well as the osteocyte lacunar system, within murine bone will be analyzed quantitatively using a novel imaging strategy for synchrotron nano-computed tomography. This so far unexplored issue is crucial for the understanding of osteogenesis, bone growth and maturation on an ultrastructural level and beyond, offers a new framework for future experimental designs dedicated to the study of regulatory mechanisms involved in bone development and adaptation.
